ADRIAN GORE, BSC (Hons), FFA, ASA, MAAA, FASSA
Founder & CEO, Discovery Holdings Ltd.
In addition to his duties as CEO of Discovery, Adrian Gore is Chairman of Endeavor South Africa and the South African Board of Jewish Education. He also serves on the Boards of Discovery Health, Discovery Holdings, Destiny Health, Vitality Lifestyle (Pty) Ltd, the Ethics Institute of SA, the International Marketing Council of South Africa and PruHealth (UK).
He began his career at Liberty Life where he was instrumental in the development of Liberty's Medical Lifestyle product. In 1998, Mr. Gore was chosen as South Africa's Best Entrepreneur in the annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and voted “most admired individual in health insurance,” by Professional Management Review magazine. He was also awarded the South African Jewish Business Achiever Award and in 2006, Mr. Gore won the South Africa's Leading Managers Award from the Corporate Research Foundation and Business Report. Adrian Gore graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Actuarial Science. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries (Edinburgh), an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (Chicago), and a member the American Academy of Actuaries.
ALAN POLLARD, BSC (Hons), FIA, FASSA

Mr. Pollard joined Discovery Health in 1994 as Head of Research and Development with responsibility for the design and development of the Discovery Health product range, a position he maintained until 2007. Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Pollard was employed by Liberty Life as an Assistant Actuary in the Product Development area. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in London and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa. Mr. Pollard graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Actuarial Science.
ARTHUR C. CARLOS, BSC (Hons), FSA, EA
President & CEO, The Vitality Group
Since Mr. Carlos took the helm in 2006, he has spearheaded a focused growth strategy for the business around its market-leading wellness and health enhancement program, Vitality, through the launch of a new organization—The Vitality Group. Mr. Carlos is committed to bringing wellness-based healthcare coverage to the U.S. marketplace in a way that best meets customer needs. During his tenure, The Vitality Group has pioneered many concepts in US wellness: personalization of health activities, actuarially-derived incentives to create behavior change and the industry's most robust guarantee of results. Mr. Carlos joined Destiny Health as Chief Actuarial Officer in December 2005. In that role, he oversaw risk management, technical marketing, and underwriting for the business. His prior experience includes more than 15 years serving clients in the area of employee benefits for both Aon Consulting and Hewitt Associates. While at Aon Consulting, Mr. Carlos served as Senior Vice President, as Chair of a national practice council and as region practice leader. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Illinois and is admitted as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA.
BARRY SWARTZBERG, BSC, FFA, ASA, FASSA, CFP

Mr. Swartzberg joined Discovery Health at its inception in 1992. As one of the company's pioneers, he was instrumental in establishing the company's marketing division, as well as driving the evolution of Discovery Health's risk management and operational areas. Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Swartzberg was at Liberty Life where he worked as a manager of product development (Individual Business) and as an actuary for product development (Group Business). He developed several products that are currently brokered by Liberty Life. Mr. Swartzberg graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Actuarial Science and Mathematical Statistics. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries (Edinburgh), and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (Chicago).
FLOYD D. LOOP, MD
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Governors of Cleveland Clinic Foundation, retired
Dr. Floyd Loop is internationally renowned for his pioneering work in coronary artery surgery. He and his colleagues were responsible for today's widespread use of arterial conduits in coronary artery surgery, innovations in valve repair and technical improvements for reoperations. Dr. Loop joined the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in 1970 and was named Chairman of the Department in 1975—a post he held until 1989 when he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Governors for 15 years, until October 2004.
Among the awards and honors accorded him, Dr. Loop received the American College of Cardiology Cummings Humanitarian Award, the American Heart Association Citation for International Service, and the Order of Merit, the highest civilian award given in Brazil in 1982. He chaired the Residency Review Committee for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1993, and was President of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery 1997, and a Director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, 1993-1999. From 1999-2002, Dr. Loop served on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).
Dr. Loop graduated from Purdue University and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from The George Washington University, Washington D.C. His postgraduate surgical training included appointments at The George Washington University; with the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force base and at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He has received Honorary Doctor of Science degrees from Cleveland State University, St. Louis, and Purdue universities.
JAMES M. MEAD, BS, MA

Since his retirement, Mr. Mead has established his own economic advisory firm working with venture capital firms, investment banking firms and emerging companies in health care services. He is a venture partner with Radius Ventures, LLC (New York, NY), a venture capital firm focused on leading-edge health and life sciences firms. After a thirty-year career with BlueCross, Mr. Mead continues to serve as Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors. He served on the Board of Directors of the national BlueCross BlueShield Association, sitting on many national committees and chairing its Plan Performance and Financial Standards Committee. Prior to joining Capital BlueCross, he was a member of the faculty of Penn State University and served as a health economist and special assistant to the Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner. Currently, Mr. Mead also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Lawyers Fund for Client Security of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, PA). He also serves on the Boards of the Hershey Trust Company which manages the $8 billion trust established by Milton S. Hershey (Hershey, PA); the Milton Hershey School (Hershey, PA); and the Hershey Foundation (Hershey, PA (Hershey, PA). Mr. Mead holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in economics from Penn State University and was appointed an Alumni Fellow of the University in 1986.
PETER R. DOLAN, BA, MBA
Chief Executive Officer Bristol-Myers Squibb, retired
Mr. Dolan joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1988 in the over-the-counter consumer products division. He became president of the company and a member of its Board of Directors in January 2000, and served as Chairman of the Board until 2005. During his tenure as CEO, he led the repositioning and revitalization of the company's pharmaceuticals business, launching eight new drugs in the past five years and creating a top-notch pharmaceutical pipeline. The company's other healthcare businesses grew significantly in both revenue and profit on his watch. Mr. Dolan is a trustee of Tufts University, where he Chairs the Administration and Finance Committee and serves on the Executive, Audit and Compensation Committees. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Tuck School at Dartmouth College. He is currently also a member of the Board of Directors of CASA at Columbia University and a member of the Business Council. He served on the boards of the American Express Company, C-Change (a cancer coalition organization) and was Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. Mr. Dolan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University and a Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
RICHARD FARBER, BCOM (Hons), CA(SA), CIMA
Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Discovery Health Medical Scheme
Mr. Farber joined Discovery as the Group Executive Chief Financial Officer, and serves as a member of the Group Executive Committee. He is responsible for the global finances of the Group. In addition to his roles at Discovery, Mr. Farber serves on the GAAP monitoring panel of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Richard Farber graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree in Financial Accounting. He is both a Chartered Accountant (registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) and Management Accountant registered with the Chartered Instituted of Management Accountants.
STEVEN B. EPSTEIN, JD, B.A.

Throughout his career, Mr. Epstein has been a pioneer in the legal specialty known as healthcare law. For over 35 years, he has played a unique role in the establishment of the concept that healthcare organizations require a dedicated form of legal representation. During this time, he was instrumental in the acceptance of managed care as the most prominent form of healthcare delivery. Mr. Epstein has often been referred to as the “father of the healthcare industry” as stated in Chambers USA and was selected as a member of the Greater Washington Legal Elite by Washington Smart CEO. Mr. Epstein established Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. in 1973. The firm has grown to approximately 400 lawyers in ten cities and is generally recognized as one of the leading law firms in healthcare law with over 130 attorneys dedicated to this specialty. Mr. Epstein provides a wide range of healthcare organizations and providers with strategic legal guidance responding to the legal challenges and opportunities of the rapidly changing American healthcare system. In this connection, he currently sits on the Boards of a number of healthcare companies and venture capital firms. Mr. Epstein graduated from Tufts University in 1965, where he earned the Donald A. Cowdery Memorial Award for leadership and was the editor-in-chief of the Tufts Weekly and the Columbia Law School. Following graduation from Columbia, Mr. Epstein joined the Wall Street law firm of Barrett Knapp Smith & Shapiro. He has served as a legal consultant to the Health Maintenance Organization Service, Health Services and Mental Health Administration, and U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
DEREK YACH, MBCHB (Cape Town), MPH (Johns Hopkins), DSC (Honoris Causa, Georgetown)
Vice President of Global Health Policy at PepsiCo
Prior to his tenure at Pepsico, Dr. Yach headed global health at the Rockefeller Foundation, was a professor of Public Health, led the Division of Global Health at Yale University, and is a former Executive Director of the World Health Organization (WHO). He spearheaded efforts to improve global health, and, while at the WHO, served as cabinet director under Director-General Gro Harlem Brundtland. Dr. Yach helped place tobacco control, nutrition and chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease prominently on the agenda of governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector. He directed the development of WHO's first treaty, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and the development of Global Strategy on Diet and Physical Activity. Dr. Yach, a South African national, established the Centre for Epidemiological Research at the South African Medical Research Council which focused on quantifying inequalities and the impact of urbanization on health. He has authored or co-authored over 200 articles covering the breadth of global health issues.

SENATOR WILLIAM H. FRIST, MD
Advisor, Discovery HealthFormer Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate
As the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate, Sen. Frist focused on domestic health reform, the basic science of heart transplantation, global health policy, healthcare disparities, information technology, medical mission work in Sudan, genocide in Darfur, the health of the mountain gorilla and HIV/AIDS. Sen. Frist is the 2007-2008 Frederick H. Schultz Professor of International Economic Policy at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He annually leads medical mission trips to Africa. The Senator co-chairs the ONE Campaign's presidential initiative: ONE Vote '08 and Save the Children's Survive to Five Campaign. His current board service includes Africare, the U.S. Holocaust Museum's Committee on Conscience, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project and Hope through Healing Hands. Sen. Frist majored in health policy at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs before graduating from Harvard Medical School and completing a surgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a heart transplantation fellowship at Stanford. After completing his fellowship, he became a faculty member at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he began a heart and lung transplantation program. He also became staff surgeon at the Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1989, he founded the Vanderbilt Transplant Center, where he performed over 150 heart and lung transplants, authored more than 100 peer-reviewed medical articles, over 400 newspaper articles and five books on topics such as bioterrorism and transplantation.
LESTER C. CONEY, BS

Lester Coney is executive vice president in Mesirow Financial's Office of the Chairman. Since joining Mesirow Financial in 2006, Coney has been responsible for originating and nurturing new business opportunities as well as expanding and maintaining client relationships across all lines of business, including investment management, investment services, insurance, investment banking, consulting and real estate. Previously, he served as senior managing director for AON Corporation. Mr. Coney is also a very active and prominent civic leader. He has been actively involved in many organizations in support of the arts, civic improvement, and minority and ethnic issues. He is past chairman of both the Goodman Theatre and City Year Chicago. He is the founding chairman of the Congo Square Theatre Company. He is a trustee for numerous organizations including the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College Chicago and Lincoln University. He is on the board of the directors of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation and the board of governors of the School of the Art Institute Chicago. Mr. Coney has received many awards and honors including the Loretto Hospital's 2008 Spirit of Achievement Award, Association of Fundraising Professional's 2007 Executive Leader Award, the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boys and Girls Club of Chicago's 2007 King Legacy Award. In 2006, he was also awarded for leadership in the arts by the Arts and Business Council of Chicago.
